The original Age of Empires was one of the most popular strategy games in PC history, spanning over many sequels and expansions. The next installment arrived with an updated art style that ended up leaving a lot to be desired for fans who missed the classic look. Today we’re going to discuss if this final release made up for it or not.,

The “age of empires 4 release date” is a strategy game that was released on October 19, 2018. The game has received mixed reviews and is available on PC and Mac.

Age of Empires 4 is the newest installment in the legendary series, which began many years ago when game updates were still included with magazines. Age of Empires 2 is still a remarkably popular competitive game, with more concurrent players on Steam than its predecessor.

Is Age of Empires 4 going to tear down the barriers and claim the throne? Let’s take a closer look at what this installment has to offer.

Theme of the Game

Will Age of Empires 4 take the crown?

The goal of each round is straightforward: build up your army and destroy your opponents’ bases. However, this simplicity conceals Age of Empires 4’s complexity, which combines a complicated game of rock paper scissors with limited resources and vast armies.

Campaign for one player

Will Age of Empires 4 take the crown?

There are four single-player campaigns based on historical events available. The Norman campaign starts in 1066 and follows a succession of rulers as they battle for control of the crown through the years. The Hundred Years War, the Mongol invasion of Russia, and the rise of Moscow in the aftermath of the Mongol destruction are the others.

These advertisements include scene-setting that looks eerily similar to a BBC history documentary, but this is by no means a negative thing, since there are some excellent images and just enough information to not overwhelm non-history buffs.

Aside from the campaigns, there’s a fully customizable skirmish mode with thousands of maps, region-specific topography, and map seeds that you can share with friends.

Mechanics of the Gameplay

Will Age of Empires 4 take the crown?

Following a tried-and-true recipe isn’t all terrible, particularly when it was developed over a long period of time. The fundamentals of Age of Empires are basic and straightforward, allowing anybody acquainted with the genre to get right in.

You begin by establishing the essentials of survival with your town center and a few residents. This means having your peasants chop wood and collect food while your scout frantically searches the map for gold, stone, and as many sheep as possible.

You’ll find yourself growing as swiftly as possible with these resources – the more, the better, since rushing is the name of the game. Despite the gold rush, you must not overlook your army, which must be built as a defensive force that will ultimately assault.

Age of Empires 4 is a simple castle simulator that fits nicely with the fast-paced action since you can construct walls and towers.

As your civilisation grows, you’ll progress through the eras, erecting monuments that offer one of two faction-specific advantages and unlocking higher-quality troops as well as a gleaming new look for all your structures. One element that is especially appealing is that improvements are applied to all troops on the field, ensuring that you don’t wind up with out-of-date warriors ruining the fun.

The primary purpose of the fights will be to conquer and destroy your opponents, while secondary goals such as creating and guarding a Wonder or controlling every Holy Site on the map may also be included.

If you’ve never played Age of Empires before, expect to spend a lot of time clicking, scrolling, and generally keeping an eye on the ball. It’s not a game that holds your hand, and you’ll pay the price if you don’t pay attention.

Visuals

Will Age of Empires 4 take the crown?

The images come in a variety of styles, and the art design is consistently great. The documentaries combine contemporary video with computer-generated troops to help anchor the facts in realism.

The combat maps are well-designed, featuring terrain that is simple to understand. The buildings also spread beyond their confines to alter the environment. It’s obvious from the start, with tiny fields and trails spreading out all around your town center, adding a wonderful touch.

The only big disappointment was the units themselves, which were still terrific. There’s nothing wrong with them, but they seem a touch cartoony in comparison to the terrain’s accuracy. Of course, this is the new Age of Empires aesthetic, and it works well, but it is a matter of personal preference, and series veterans may not feel at ease.

Music & Audio

The audio is excellent throughout, with pleasing UI and gameplay noises that are simple to recognize. With the rapid speed of tactics, this is critical when you’re moving between troops and structures quickly, or when you’re notified to an impending assault.

The background music is likewise excellent, blending in with the overall concept without being obtrusive or monotonous. Overall, there isn’t much to criticize here.

AI

Will Age of Empires 4 take the crown?

Although the AI is better than in Age of Empires 3, it will still deploy minor waves of assaults during a game. When dealing with an entrenched player, it is capable of unleashing massive assaults with vast numbers of siege engines.

That said, it’s still an RTS AI, thus the conventional strategies will be to gather resources, develop troops as quickly as possible, and then launch a frontal assault against the player.

It does, however, make good use of scouts and cavalry, sending companies of cavalry to harass your flanks and scouts to assault your peasants, despite the fact that they must journey half the map to do so. While dealing with it might be aggravating, it adds to the difficulty and is a plausible strategy.

Unfortunately, the AI doesn’t appear to comprehend choke points and instead constructs scattered walls around its bases, although with a large number of towers capable of effectively throttling invading forces.

Multiplayer

Will Age of Empires 4 take the crown?

The game isn’t simply you vs. the AI, and competitive online bouts have a bright future ahead of them. There is a lobby where you can meet opponents, which can be selected by the kind of combat you want to play. There is also a cooperative option if you want to play with a buddy.

Accessibility

Will Age of Empires 4 take the crown?

Age of Empires 4’s creators have paid close attention to accessibility, including a high contrast mode and speech options for the UI and incoming chat messages.

Performance

Even with an SSD, performance isn’t horrible, but loading times might be longer than you’d want. However, once in the game, everything performed perfectly with no crashes or latency. It’s a very reliable game, thanks to Relic Entertainment’s Essence Engine.

One difficulty we ran across was the utter absence of unit health meters, which made micromanaging in battle difficult. We may fairly infer that this is due to hardware issues since a second computer showed them properly. These issues will most likely be addressed in the next major release.

KEY MOMENT IN THE GAME

While the time crept down to defeat, we ran a cavalry attack around the opposing walls to burn their Wonder to the ground. Although no horses survived, I was victorious.

VERDICT OF THE AGE OF EMPIRES IV

Age of Empires 4 accomplishes a lot of things well, expanding on the foundations of the Age of Empires series. The upgraded visuals will be welcomed by fans of the original games, and the gameplay will preserve the same fast-paced feel. The historical campaigns and the changing art style of the structures as they go through the years will also please history fans.

The only significant drawbacks are how easily you may lose your rhythm and how hotkeys are nearly always used in multiplayer.
